28&29 July - Birders at G.Brinchang PDF Print E-mail

This weekend  REACH was host to a group of expert birders from MNS Selangor Birdgroup.  The group headed by Mark had graciously accepted our invitation to go up to the  Bio-D Center (under construction) at the REACH Reforestation Site to assist us in updating our birdlist.

Although the group departed from KL/PJ  as early as 6.00 am they were bright at cheerful  when they were greetted by REACH volunteers Carrol, Jay and Erica at  EQ. After the whole group had ensembled they departed for G.Bringchang and began birdwatching almost immediately upon diembarking from their cars.

The pictures below tell the story of the Happy Birders at G.Brinchang

 .

About two hours of birding along the road to the peak. With our prepacked picnic lunch, we headed for the peak of G.Brinchang to feast on a sumptuos meal prepared by REACH volunteers.

Lunch time, the only thing that could pry the birders from the birds,"rumble of hungry tummies:)" .

With their energy restored, the MNS Birders were "flagged off" to climb the steep incline to the REACH Reforestation site.

When asked how long it would take to the top, the reply was a bit subjective, "for those fit and able it would take about 10 mins for those not so fit 45 mins. However  for these group of hardy Birders it only took 20 minit, which is the average speed:)

Once at the center, Carrol briefed them on the Reforestation Project and the Bio-D Center and REACH's future plans for the area in terms of research. She then  took them on a quick walking tour around the reforestation plots.

On route we came across a sapling which had been uprooted and it was  "tenderly replanted" by Lee and Erica.

We were also joined by REACH member Balu and his three sons.

Volunteers resting at our Nissen Hut. The porch with one of the bests views in G.Brinchang.

Time for cross-checking, birders with their "bible" seated nice and comfy on bamboo chairs (donated by volunteer) and brought up just in time to welcome our first group of researchers:)

Time for tea, with REACH's famous homemade butter cake and buns.

.

A true birder Tang,  taking notes instead of enjoying the breathtaking view:)

Thank you Mark for arranging to have such a great combination of birders. It was great having you all here and we look forward for more joint programmes:)
